Some say yes, some say no. One of the great things about going to a competition is getting the chance to see other people's outfits. You can get some great ideas from what you see. Don't forget you will, at some time want another outfit yourself!! You may not want everything you see, but other peoples outfits will give you ideas. It gives you ideas of color, length, design -- good ideas and some not so good ideas. But that's the fun part. Seeing what you'd want to have and deciding "maybe not that one".

Take a look at the other outfits and see what you like. Remember to think about your figure, what you'd be comfortable in, or even just what you'd really want to own. You can get a good idea of what color looks good on the floor. See how outfits flow and move. Some come off better than others. Also get an idea of what your age group or level wears. If you are a higher level, you may want a more "professional" looking dress. Sometimes beginner competitors don't wear as ornate outfits as higher level dancers.
