Here are some sites that have new costumes. Santos Designs Inc. This site appears to have custom ladies gowns for both American and International, and they have men's clothes too. Dance Sport Ballgowns is a new site I recently found. They show some beautiful gowns. Designs by Lyn has gowns and dresses by Lyn Wallander. I got a chance to take a look at some of her stuff at a recent competition I went to. NICE Chrisanne is in England but has beautiful gowns. This is a great site to look at if you are looking for dress ideas. They do make custom gowns. They do have a US website. The US website has some ready to wear gown (worth taking a look at). If you need fabric, stones, etc. for making a gown Chrisanne UK sells some of these items. Designs by Randall. Randall's does custom gowns (I've tried them on and they're wonderful) and some ready to wear skirts, tops, and dresses. Take a look at their ready to wear collections. Also, these are the people who do gowns for Dancing with the Stars. Maria McGill - Designs to Shine Deirdre Baker - Deirdre of London If you are in need of an outfit for a competition and you would consider an used one, take a look at Ballroomdancers.com or Ballroom Gown Network. I've even seen ballgowns for sale on eBay Auctions. Just a note about the eBay auctions - there are some "eBay Stores" out of Hong Kong and China that are selling ballroom and latin outfits. I did a search on Ballroom dress and got about 30 items. Some were obviously not gowns for ballroom dancing, they were prom and "cruise" dresses. But some were gently used ballroom gowns for competition. And there were new gowns for sale. The styles ranged from hideous to not bad to a few stunning gowns. You do need to check the size measurements for these dresses as they vary widely. But take a look at some of these dresses, many have pictures. It may be a good way to get started with a competition outfit. And of course the items for sale change constantly so you do need to keep a watch of items. And of course check the prices. The price range I saw was from about $50 for a latin outfit to gowns for $2,500 so it is very much buyer beware. Here are some sites that have shoes. Emerald City Dance This store is in Federal Way, WA. They have clothes (some ready to wear suitable for social or competition), shoes (lots of shoes), jewelry and accessories. They can dye some of the shoes that wonderful nude color that goes with everything. If you need ballroom shoes, this is a place to go. The ladies that work there dance and know how to fit you properly. The store is attached to a dance studio so you can often try the shoes on a dance floor. Here are some sites that have a variety of accessories. DanceShopper.com is an innovative shopping portal specializing in merchandising dancewear, ballroom dance shoes, ballroom dance music, dance supplies and accessories, as well as dance jewelry. Ron's Rhinestones has some great jewelry for competition. This is not your normal "wear it out to dinner" or work type of jewelry. But if you're interested in competition, this place has a lot of options. They have necklace sets, bracelets, etc. This is a web site with some very interesting jewelry. I bought myself a necklace and earring set and a bracelet from Ron's Rhinestones. I took them in for my dance instructor and a friend to see. We like what we saw. I chose my items using their pictures and descriptions. They were pretty accurate. I have heard some complaints from friends about jewelry not holding up for competition work. I don't expect that to be a problem with these items. If you need stones for your gown check out The Rhinestone Guy. This site has a variety of rhinestones that you can glue or sew onto outfits. They carry Swarovski stones. Swarovski's are the brand I always hear as being the best of the best. Do take a good look at their color, size, and styles they have available. Some stones are glue on only, some of the larger ones are stitch on only. Make sure you get the kind you need. I've bought stones from them. You get what you order and they are very helpful. But do your homework -- check size, type, and get an idea of color. I ordered the sample card and it is a big help. You get to see the actual colors of the stones -- I highly recommend it. Here are some sites that have all around information and stuff. For videos you might want to check out Dance Vision. They have lots of different dance stuff. Ballroomdancers.com This has it all -- partner listings, used ladies and men costumes, and just general information about ballroom dancing. They also have video clips on steps. A highly informational site. Petticoat Junction Petticoat Junction is in Lynnwood, WA. They have a variety of different type of dance items. They carry shoes, clothes, leotards. Some of their clothes are for ballroom, some for square dancing, country, etc. Its a good place to go and check out different things. Just check their hours first. But you can call and see when they are available. DanceShopper is a new site I've heard of. They carry shoes, ready to wear dancewear, accessories, jewelry, CD/videos and even Swarovski rhinestones. They even carry some shirts, ties, waistcoats and studs for men. Notably Unique carries shoes, clothes, CD's, accessories and dance videos. They have some good loocking jewelry. I've had the opportunity to see some of their jewelry at competitions. It is nice looking. |
